Do Unto Others
Hey team, here we are, Workshop Wednesday. Today’s quote: ‘If you wouldn’t like it done to you, don’t do it to others.’ It kind of goes back to that golden rule: ‘Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.’
I don’t know about you, but my great-grandmother used to always say basically that. ‘Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.’ She would say it all the time. She would also say, ‘Two wrongs don’t make a right.’ Because sometimes I’d say, ‘Well, Grandma, so-and-so did this. So, that’s why I socked him in the eye.’
The grandmother would say, ‘Two wrongs don’t make a right, do unto others as you’d have them do unto you.’ And then I would try to argue. I’d say, ‘Well, you know, he did this to me. So he must want it done back to him,’ and she would look at me and she’d say, ‘Two wrongs don’t make a right, Chad.’
There was no getting away from my grandmother, especially my great-grandma. She was such a sweet lady. But she had just a way about her that you felt horrible if you were doing the wrong thing. She could just look at you, and it was like she was this human lie detector. She just knew that mischief was afoot, and you had to do the right thing. You felt obligated to do the right thing when you were around her because she just had such a sweet presence and a way about her.
But really, guys, if you wouldn’t want it done to you, why would you do it to somebody else? So if you go through life with that mindset, ‘I wouldn’t want this done to me, so I’m not going to do it to somebody else.’ And when somebody does you wrong, you can look at it and say, ‘I’m not going to do it back to them, and I’m not going to do it to somebody else because two wrongs don’t make a right.’
And so, therefore, it’s right. I mean, that’s even a scientific thing, right? Two negatives don’t make a positive; it’s just not possible. I’m not a super big scientist, but two positives don’t make a negative either. So be positive and be what others need. Give them what they want. That’s how we get to that place in our core values and our core purpose of being valuable, because nothing less will do.
So as you go through this week, Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. And don’t do to someone else something you wouldn’t want done to yourself. And remember, Two wrongs don’t make a right, just like great grandma used to say.
Alright, God bless you guys. I’ll see you next week. Have a wonderful week, please.
