Choose Your Attitude Wisely
Hey Team! All right. So here we are. I don’t want to be a downer, but the month of July is rolling to the end. Which means we have August and then we’re going to be rolling into crisp fall. Sonja’s time. Leaves will start changing colors. She’s gonna get excited about Halloween, all those kinds of things. I don’t know about you, I’m not excited about Halloween, and the reason I’m not excited about Halloween is because it means that winter’s coming. So, Sonja, I’d like to put it off another three to five months. I would love to have this weather for another three to five months, but here we are.
Seasons do change and we keep moving through. Victor E. Frankle said, and let me read this to you, that’s kind of cool. “Our greatest freedom is the freedom to choose our attitude.”
So again, I just said I’m not super excited, but my attitude can get down or be solemn when I start to think about the fact that winter’s going to be coming in just a few months. Or I can change my attitude and say, you know what, I’m gonna make the best of today. I’m gonna make the best of this week, I’m gonna make the best of the rest of this summer, and I’m gonna make memories. Huge memories, with family, friends, and co-workers. I’m going to make some memories and I’m going to enjoy some of my life so that I have something to reflect back on.
And that is that change in attitude, that is the thing, that is the freedom of choice. You can choose to do those kinds of things, and if you do, then you can move into the fall and you can look backwards and say, man, what a summer that was, one of the best Summers I’ve ever had. I am so excited. You can think about, hey, you know what, I had so much fun last summer.
When you get to Halloween, November, December, January, February, it’s cold outside, you can say, oh man, Summer’s almost here and, you know, I had so much fun last summer. I didn’t get all the hikes in that I wanted to do, so I’m gonna start making a list of the things I’m going to do this coming summer. And you can have a better attitude and maybe even enjoy the crisp, clean, dreary sometimes weather that happens in those months.
But it is all about attitude. Good or bad, you can choose to have one. You can have a great attitude, you can have a bad attitude, but ultimately, you still chose the attitude you have. And that’s sometimes tough for us to hear or even think about. Most of my problems are staring me back in the face when I look in the mirror. Most of my problems start internally with the way I think and how I feel about how I think. Sometimes my feelings are created by my attitude, whereas I can change my attitude and change my feeling too. Sometimes I can not feel so great and change my attitude, and all of a sudden my feeling will change and get better. It’s about the will, the will to change and do for yourself.
So on this beautiful day, as we’re marching through this beautiful month, think: what is your attitude and what can you do to change it? Maybe you’re like Sonja and you don’t love the summer. Well, maybe Sonja needs to hear this. Think about what you’re going to do this fall and enjoy something today. Maybe she needed to hear that. But ultimately, it is all about our attitude. What kind of attitude are you going to have? Because you get to make it and then you get to live your life according to the attitude that you have.
So what are you going to do? For me, I choose to enjoy watching my boys play. I’m going to choose to have an attitude of thankfulness towards my team and the people that I work with, and be grateful for all of you. That is my choice, that is my attitude.
So thank you and God bless you. Have a wonderful week and until next week, be valuable. You know that nothing less will do. I’ll see you next week.
