Law of Nature

Law of Nature

Okay team, here we are again. We’re just about halfway through the first month, and I came across a quote that really got me thinking.

It’s poetic in a way—let me share it with you, and then we’ll unpack it together. “Nothing in nature lives for itself.”

It’s a powerful statement. Let’s explore it further:

  • Rivers don’t drink their own water.
  • Trees don’t eat their own fruit.
  • The sun doesn’t shine for itself.
  • A flower’s fragrance isn’t meant for itself.

Living for each other is the rule of nature.

So, what are you living for? What’s your purpose? What drives you? Is it all about you, or are you living for somebody else?

As parents, we often realize our lives become consumed by our kids. We do so many things for them, to help them experience things we may never have experienced ourselves. For example, I recently took JT up to the mountain for ski lessons. My own ski lessons were given by a friend, five minutes before I got on the ski lift—let’s just say that didn’t work out so well for me!

My point is, we live for others, or at least we should, in so many different ways. This brings us back to our core values: humility, investment, transparency, and celebration. We celebrate as a family because we live for each other. We practice humility because we recognize that we need others in our lives. It’s not about us. We invest in our community and each other. We say, “Be valuable. Nothing else will do.” We repeat this over and over in our hearts and minds, and I hope it’s resonating with you.

Our core values matter because they’re rooted in living for others. A lot of the decisions we make as a company are focused on creating a better place for everyone who works here and for the community we serve.

Everything we do aligns with that purpose.

So, what are you living for today? Remember, a river doesn’t drink its own water—it’s not made for itself. The sun doesn’t shine on itself; it gives light to the world. What are you doing for others today? This isn’t just philosophy—it’s a law of nature. It’s kind of cool, right?

Think about it. Reflect on it this week. I’d love to hear your thoughts—send me a quick note or email me. Your reflections mean a lot to me.

God bless you. Remember, be valuable. Nothing less will do. It’s about somebody else. It’s always about somebody else. Who are you living for, what are you living for? What are you giving of yourself to better this community, this world, this place? What kind of legacy do you want to live and leave?

God bless you all. I’ll see you next week.
