The World Isn’t Fair, But You Can be
Well team, here we are again. I had this quote come across my feed, and it said, “The world isn’t fair.” Well, no duh. I think we all know that by now. And if you don’t know that, well, I got a bridge right here behind me for sale. Happens to be for sale, and I could hook you up.
No, we all know that the world isn’t really very fair, don’t we? But you can be. Just because the world isn’t fair doesn’t give us license to be unfair, to be unkind, to be ruthless toward others. The world can become a better place if enough of us believe in being fair, being kind, being generous, being loving, and being compassionate toward our fellow man, woman, and child in our neighborhood.
By going the extra mile—by shoveling your friend’s driveway when it snows, as long as they want it shoveled. Some people don’t. I’ve experienced that. I once shoveled a little old lady’s driveway, and she got mad at me for doing so because she liked the beauty of the snow and didn’t plan on walking outside. So make sure you actually ask before you shovel your friend’s driveway.
But it’s important to be fair, to be kind, to be generous with those around you. Think about it. You realize that the world isn’t very fair, so you take license to take advantage of someone else before they take advantage of you. That’s kind of like an eye for an eye—the whole world becomes blind. We don’t want that.
Our value system, our focus here at Northwest Enforcement, is to be kind and fair toward our clients, our community, and those we work with. It’s something that we strive to do. Are we perfect at it? Heck no. I know that we make mistakes. Sometimes, even as leaders, we experience moments where we have been jaded by team members or people who no longer work here. We’ve been harmed or hurt, and we might act out toward another team member because of how we have been treated in the past.
Be kind, be generous. Be thoughtful of others’ feelings. Have empathy. Just because the world isn’t fair, just because somebody else wasn’t fair toward you, don’t use that as a license to go be unfair toward someone else.
As you go through this week, this month, the rest of this year, and honestly, the rest of your life—just because the world’s not fair, you still can be. And I hope you will be. I hope you’ll think about that in every moment, that integrity, that transparency, that resolve to do the right thing when it’s the right thing to do. Regardless of what’s going on around you, regardless of the losses you might experience. Regardless of the benefits you might gain by not doing what you should.
Just because the rest of the world is unkind, don’t take that license. Be kind anyway, be generous anyway, be good anyway, be fair anyway.
God bless you guys. Have a wonderful week. Be valuable—nothing less will do. And I’m so glad and proud of you for taking on these traits, this focus, and wanting to do the right thing, regardless of the way the rest of the world treats us.
Have a wonderful week. Bye – see you next week.
