Attitude Gives You Influence

Attitude Gives You Influence

Hey team. All right. So, here we are. It is a beautiful Monday, and we are marching through August. School will be starting in just a few weeks. I wanted to share with you a quote from one of my stories in my life that also happens to be in our leadership class. And who knows, maybe in a book someday. I am kind of working on that, too.

In my young Marine Corps life, I had a situation. I am not going to go into the whole thing. The quote is this: Your title gives you authority, but your attitude gives you influence. Your title gives you authority. A lot of times in life, we think that we have to have a position to have power.

We have to have a rank or a structure to influence others, and that is just not true. People with influence can garner others to respect them and to understand them. Even from the lowest of ranks, even from the lowest of positions. You can change the course or the mood of an entire group of people in positive ways.

    Your attitude gives you influence.

You can also do it in negative ways, but I do not want to focus on those. I want to focus on the positive. And so we at Northwest Enforcement have had, on more than one occasion, people at lower ranks, just officers, patrol, on-site, so on and so forth, that have influenced a change that has taken place within the company.

One of those that I remember very strongly was an officer who, way back before SRT had developed into its program, was checking the car in and out. The way the officer did it by taking photographs and documenting all the information in his shift log was absolutely amazing.

And as I read some of those, I was like, what, why is it that we only have one officer doing this? Who taught this officer to do this? That officer influenced me, which then influenced the whole company to change because Greg and James started writing software, and it changed the evolution of how we do checking in and out of vehicles, which hopefully, long-term, lowers costs, damage, and things like that.

It keeps people accountable for their actions. It does not let things just happen to the vehicles, stuff like that. Well, that all happened from just a regular officer who had an insight or an idea to make something happen.

So you too, each and every officer that works here, each and every person, no matter what your position is here.

It is your attitude and how you do things that can influence the entire company. That is a powerful thing. So remember that as you go forward the rest of this week and through the rest of this year. You can make changes by being positive and having great ideas, and implementing them at your level.

You can change lots of different people to move in the right direction. All right, God bless you guys. Have a wonderful week. I will see you next week. And always, always remember to be valuable. Nothing less will do. All right, God bless you guys. I will see you next week.
