Resilience Is Not Born in Comfort
Hey team. So I got this quote from a Stanford-like review. I was doing some leadership reading and stuff, and this one researcher said this. It said, resilience is not born in comfort. It is forged in the friction of challenge. Resilience. It is not born in comfort but in the friction of challenge.
And I grew up having a very abrasive and friction-producing life. The Marine Corps did that, too. And so I kind of resonate with this statement, and I think our core values do too. Today is Monday, and I wanted to share with you my thoughts because we talk about resolve. Having the resolve to not quit.
Well, what gives you that resolve? What builds resilience in you? And sometimes friction and challenge, competition, these kinds of things, they spur you on to become greater than you are because you cannot be comfortable and have yourself grow in any kind of meaningful way. I guess if you sat and did not do anything but eat bonbons, you would definitely grow, but I do not know if it would be in the way that you would want to grow.
And so, as I think about that and what that researcher put in that quote and the thing around it, it is through friction in life. We use terms like iron sharpens iron. That honing process, that grinding away to sharpen the blade, that is friction.
It requires that in order to become more useful. So perhaps today you are going through some friction here at work. Maybe some friction in your personal life. Maybe friction in your financial life, maybe friction in your relationships with your children or your spouse. I get it. I really do. And maybe it is even in your medical life. Maybe you have some medical concerns and some things going on in your life right now that are applying some friction.
It is there to sharpen and hone you. Have the resolve to not quit. Do not quit. Do not give up. Keep fighting. Keep going through. Sometimes we have to go through the pain in order to really ignite a better purpose for ourselves, a better future for ourselves, because of what we are willing to withstand today.
I know it has been true for me in the past, and I believe it is still true for me today. I think some of our team, some of you may look at Karen and me, and you think that we have got this thing wrapped up. We do not. We still are treging through, going through, questioning, having to have resolve to fight through some of the things that are not always easy.
And as we continue, I believe that resilience will come out of that friction that takes place in those moments. And so as you go through the rest of this week, remember it is not comfort that is going to get you there. It is going to be the friction and the challenge of life that is going to spur you on to bigger and better things.
All right. God bless you guys. Have a wonderful week, and remember, just like it says up there behind me, be valuable because nothing less will do. All right, guys. You take it easy. I will talk to you later. Bye. See you.
