The Best Way to Predict Your Future
So, get this. Peter Ducker, he’s a huge leadership guy. John Maxwell quotes him a lot in some of his books. Peter Ducker said, “The best way for you to create, well, to predict your future, the best way to predict your future is to go and create it.”
What does that mean? It means get up off the couch, it means get up and work. It means go out and be a caveman. Go outside of the cave and slay something and drag it home for dinner.
It means get up and get it done.
Too often, we want to hope and pray for things. That’s why so many people buy lottery tickets, and I can be honest with you, I’ve bought a few in my time. We’re always hoping for that thing to land.
I used to joke when I was younger that I used to search the want ads in the newspaper. I’m dating myself because I used to have to read the newspaper to get information. You used to have to look for a job in the newspaper, believe it or not. I used to joke and say I looked all through the want ads for the job of independently wealthy, and I just can’t find it because it’s not there.
There’s no such thing as independently wealthy for an individual to just have it land on them. As a matter of fact, some of those people that we’ve talked about historically, people that are broke that win the lottery, are broke again in a very short period of time because they don’t know how to handle that kind of money.
A few weeks ago, I think I made the comment. I talked about how Dave Ramsey had talked about, up on the stage at this last summit, how Dave Ramsey, the young Dave Ramsey, couldn’t handle the business of what Ramsey Solutions does today. That hit me and made me realize the young Chad Wro, the guy with hair and a flat top, could not run Northwest Enforcement today.
The reason for that is because of all those years of experience and falling on my face and doing things wrong and making mistakes and growing through pains and trials and tribulations over my lifetime. I’ve become stronger at being able to handle more things, and I’ve been able to handle more pressure than I’ve ever had before.
But you have to go out and create it.
You have to get up off the couch. You have to get out of bed every morning, even on mornings you don’t feel like it, and you have to go out and do it.
As I talked about, I think Monday, resilience. It’s not born in comfort. Same kind of thing. Resilience isn’t born in comfort. Peter Ducker’s right. If you want to have a future, the best way for you to predict that is to go out and create it.
So what are you doing?
You individually, as a team member here at Northwest Enforcement. We had a number of people sign up for the leadership class. Not sure why you didn’t. If you’re sitting here looking at this and you’re wanting a different future, sometimes it takes digging deep and sacrificing a little bit of time to make yourself better.
What books are you reading? Are you just reading for fun, or are you reading for growth? What are you doing to advance your own personal focus to create the place you want to be next?
It’s kind of tough. I know it’s hard sometimes to hear the truth. So I’m going to leave you with that truth. Go out and create. Be an awesome team member. Be great at what you do, and see the advancements fall upon you as you grow.
Don’t hope for a job that you can’t have because you’re not ready for it. You have to have time-tested true things in your life to build you up to make you the person that you are, ready to handle the next big thing in your life.
But you’re going to have to go create it yourself. Nobody’s going to just do it for you.
All right. God bless you. Have a wonderful week. I’ll see you guys next week. Bye. See you.
