Success Is Not Owned but Rented
All right, today’s word of the day: success. Success is never owned. It is rented and is due every day.
So from that quote, it reminds me. I do not know about you guys, I remember very few things about kindergarten. I do not know how many of you remember things from kindergarten, but I do remember one thing about kindergarten.
We used to play King of the Hill. We used to have this tire in the playground. It was half-dug in. It was like a big tractor tire. And we would get up on top of it. You are five years old. And so, yeah. Yeah. So, it is like 50 years ago for me. I remember being a kindergartener. I am sitting there, and you climb to the top, and somebody would try to knock you down.
And then you would climb to the top. Every time you got to the top, success. Somebody was always trying to knock you down. And success is a consistent thing. You have to keep working to achieve it, to keep it, to stay on top of it, to keep growing, to keep mastering. It is a lot like King of the Hill.
And so as you think about this week, the successes maybe that you have landed this week, great. When I have interviewed people in the past, some of you maybe sat with me. I tell you that I am a Ronald Reagan fan. Trust but verify. I tell you that your resume, showing up on time, dressing well, coming into the interview, your past experiences, and your letters of recommendation, all of those things got you an interview.
And your interview might get you a job, but performance is a daily thing. It is where rubber meets the road out on the street. And your performance must be maintained on a consistent and excellent basis. And that is something that we focus on because it is not just an I arrived, and I am here, and I deserve everything handed to me.
Success is not something that you can ever own.
It is something that you rent, and the rent is always due on a daily basis. So something for you to think about. I am going to keep this short and simple on this beautiful day.
As we are moving through the fall, yesterday’s success, somebody is going to come up behind you and try to knock you off of that tire. So keep working it.
It is a daily thing that you have to keep providing excellence in everything that you do and keep advancing on becoming a better version of yourself so that you can maintain that success as it continues to be due.
All right, God bless you guys. Have a wonderful week. Remember, be valuable. Nothing less will do. I will see you guys next week.
