Actions Speak

Actions Speak

All right. Hey team, here we are.

Have you ever heard that term, actions speak louder than words? Ralph O Waldo Emerson said that your actions speak so loudly I cannot hear what you’re saying. Actions speak louder than words. So, you can say all you want, but your actions dictate what you really put time into, who you are.

You can say whatever you want, teach whatever you want. It is the consistency of your behavior that really spells out who you are. And sometimes that’s good for us. Other times, maybe it’s something that we need to work on. I don’t know about you, but I feel that way sometimes. We have core values. Talking about being invested, being humble, transparency, resolve, we like to eat cake, be valuable. Nothing less would do.

We say these things, but do we live them? Do we mean them? Do we walk out our behavior? Are our actions speaking so loudly that they don’t have to hear our words? Or are the actions saying something other than what the words are saying?

Humility. Not too proud to pick up trash, but I just walked by a tin can lying next to the front door at the apartment complex that I patrol. Not too proud to pick up trash. Well, why didn’t you pick up the trash? I’m really invested, but I haven’t taken any overtime shifts in a while. And I don’t want this to be like just about security and work and stuff. It can be about anything. But again, our core values are who we are.

So, are we invested? Do we put other people? Do we put our service to others above ourselves? Are you willing to help the person who’s working in the district next to you on patrol? Are you willing to come in on a day off, are you willing to do some of those kinds of things? And the same works for the company.

Are we willing to help you out when times are tough? When you need the extra time? It’s one of the reasons we have the chaplain service. That we pay to have somebody accessible to help you when you’re grieving, when you’re dealing with something hard. It’s why we put time into Smart Dollar so that you can work on your budget to get out of debt, because we want to invest in the whole person of you.

It’s one of the reasons you’re going through open enrollment and stuff. Now, how many of you guys paid for the extra life insurance just in case something bad was to happen? Did you buy into the extra life insurance? Are you adding $10,000 again this year and paying just a tiny bit more to ensure that if the worst-case scenario were ever to happen that your family would be okay? That shows investment to your family.

And that’s why we put the time and energy into setting that up to make it possible for you. So, as you go through the rest of this week, think about it. Are your actions speaking louder than your words? Or are your actions speaking so loud that people just can’t hear what you’re saying?

All right, talk to you guys later. Bye. See you.
