Handcuffing

This class prepares officers to safety and respectfully address a violent/combative suspect. Officers learn how to safely restrain someone without injuring themselves or the suspect.

Training Description: Participants start with a discussion of safety because it is our number one goal. An injured team member or suspect is not an acceptable outcome, even if the suspect is restrained on the ground. Instructors teach officers how to conduct a search for weapons and what to do upon disarming a suspect. They review ways to safely carry, open and close handcuffs as well as how to double lock and safely remove them from the suspect. They teach officers about body mechanics dos and don’ts. And they teach officers that handcuffs, like any other tool, must be checked for any malfunctions, adequately stored and cleaned
