What You See is What You Get

What You See is What You Get

Hey team, all right so the end of June is upon us. We’re almost done and we’re moving into the Fourth of July. Barbecues are around the corner. What a wonderful time of year it is. I hope you’re enjoying your summer. I know that here in Oregon that’s a hit-or-miss kind of thing. Sometimes it’s beautiful like it is today, sometimes it’s raining and pouring, you never know. But God is still awesome and you are awesome.

I hope you’re having a wonderful time. I am enjoying the summer. I’m looking forward to the barbecue coming up. And I’m looking forward to spending time with all of you. I’m looking forward to water balloons. I’m looking forward to some good eats. It’s going to be a lot of fun.

So today’s quote for Workshop Wednesday is from Zig Ziglar. Zig Ziglar said, “The way you see light will largely determine what you get out of it.” The way you see it is what you get out of it. Some people think that’s a cliche thing but I can tell you in living as long as I’ve lived I’ve seen that.

Are you the kind of person that is waiting for something? Something good happens or something decent happens and you’re like something bad’s around the corner? And if you’re looking for bad things, guess what? You find bad things. It’s one of the reasons that I send our leaders out and I say, “Hey, when you go out onto it post and stuff, I want you to look for them doing something right. Find something awesome, find something good, look for them to do good things.”

If you’re looking for good stuff, you’re going to find good stuff. Do we find people doing the wrong thing? Sure, it happens. But if you’re looking for the good, it also happens. It happens more regularly than you would think and that is a powerful statement. The more you see in life, the way you see it, the better off you are. You’re going to get more out of life when you’re thinking in a positive way.

If you’ve read any books Zig Ziglar is a great person. There’s a number of books that he’s written, absolutely amazing books. Peter Drucker, another one, John Maxwell. I just finished a book by John Maxwell here recently, another one of his. Seems like he’s putting them out like every two months or something. I don’t know, that guy in his late 70s and he’s still a powerhouse through writing books, which is awesome. I love reading his books.

But he talks about your attitude. If you want to buy a little book that’ll probably take you about an hour, maybe an hour and a half to read, read his. It’s called “Attitude 101”. He writes a little tiny book. It’s a tiny, itty bitty, itty tiny bitty book called “Attitude 101”. It’s like going to a college course on attitude, having a great attitude, and what it can get for you.

Well, that’s what Zig Ziglar’s talking about here, how you see life is largely what you’re going to get out of it. So what is your attitude like? What do you want to get out of life? And if you’re thinking that no, nothing good is going to ever come from life, well guess what? You’re right because you’re a self-fulfilling prophecy. You’re going to go down that road in a self-fulfilling way because you’re not thinking that anything positive could ever happen. Right?

And it’s true, I’ve seen it happen in the lives of family members, and people around me, positive or negative. I’ve seen people get it’s exactly what they want because that’s how they see it. If you see yourself as a victim, you might as well go buy a sign, put it on your back that says “kick me here” because you’re going to get kicked around.

But if you’re looking for the good in life, you’re going to find it. It’ll happen simply because you’re determined, disciplined, and focused to go out there and see life as a positive thing.

So go out there and do it. Now, why are you still here? Go do it right now. God bless you. Have a wonderful week. I can’t wait until I talk to you next week. See you later. Enjoy the rest of the summer and have a great Fourth of July. It’s coming right around the corner.
