From Nothing to Something
Hey team, so here we are, and it’s another Monday Message. We’re coming to the end of February. Amazing how two months have already gone by so quickly. And I love being able to come and hang out with you guys on Mondays and spend a minute or two talking about our core values.
Today we’re going to talk about one of our core values: resolve. And I have a quote for you by David Goggins. David Goggins said, “We all have the ability to come from nothing to something.” We all have the ability to come from nothing to something.
And I don’t know how many of you guys have read his book, Can’t Hurt Me. I read it a couple of years ago now. And while it has an awful lot of F-bombs in it. He was a Navy SEAL and he curses like a sailor. But he had some really great things to say in there. His story is a profound one in the amount of abuse that he went through both as a child. Then you look at the things that he put himself through and has conquered for himself.
From long-distance hundred and some odd mile runs to pull-up challenges and the failures and the successes that he’s accomplished through his life. Again, going from somebody that a lot of people would say doesn’t have a lot to amount to, to being an influential person on the worldwide stage, I think is an amazing thing. It takes resolve. I think David would say that too. And as you read his book, you would see that it takes an awful lot of resolve and willpower, and maybe sometimes even accountability and having people in your life to help you move forward. But it takes a deepness inside of you to say that, “No, I’m going to amount to something.”
Many of you, some of you know some of my story and stuff. My parents weren’t rich, but they loved me. I had great parents. I really feel like I won the lottery when it comes to the fact that I had parents that truly loved me. And because I know that there’s a lot of people out there that come from broken homes or they’re orphans and so on and so forth. And when I read their stories, and I don’t know how many of you guys read biographies or anything like that, me read about the tragedies of other people that have been and accomplished really great things and you see how they overcame some of the really tough tragedies that many of us have never accomplished or had to walk through, is an amazing thing.
But I know that I have team members here that have conquered some pretty amazing things. And for you to be where you’re at because of the adversity that you’ve already. What I’m saying is that you can come from nothing to something. And what is that something that you’re looking for? Other than being loved and having people to love and people to be around and have friends and relationships that strengthen and hone and shape you to be better than you were yesterday. That’s a great thing to have.
So, on this Monday, I hope and my prayer is that you are feeling like you’ve gone from nothing to something. And if you feel like you’re nothing, let me tell you now, I don’t believe that. I don’t believe that anybody on our team is a nobody, is a nothing, is not worth something. You have worth in your life.
I read a book by a man many of you know, John Maxwell. He’s written over 70-80 leadership books. I’ve read probably 25 or 30 of those. And John mentions in his book, he says that everybody in this world can do something better than 10,000 other people. And that’s kind of cool, right? I can do something in my life I can do better than 10,000 other men or women in this world. And that’s pretty awesome.
Now, I’m hoping for you, you’re not sitting there going, “Yeah, I think I can play Nintendo better than anybody else.” I’m hoping that’s not the thing for you. Or, “I’m better at lounging on the couch than 10,000 other people.” Well, that’s again not necessarily the height that you should set your bar. But, and that’s just me joking around. I really believe that everybody on our team, every single person, when they apply themselves can go from not knowing much to not doing much to all of a sudden doing great things, because it is about having that internal fortitude of resolve to keep moving forward.
So as you move forward with resolve this week, God bless you, and have a wonderful week. I can’t wait until we talk again next Monday. And remember, be valuable because nothing less will do. Bye, see you.
