Vulnerability

Vulnerability

Hey team, so here we are. It’s another Wednesday Workshop. The scenery behind me is a picture of the sunset I took when we were in Hawaii this last Christmas. So I just thought I’d share with you beautiful sunset.

Today we’re going to talk about something that Brené Brown. I don’t know how many of you guys have ever read or seen any TED Talks. She is really great. Brené Brown should look her up, read her books. They’re enlightening, they’re helpful. I think you might like them. But she talks about vulnerability and courage, and a lot of different things and stuff.

On vulnerability, she says, “Vulnerability is not about winning or losing. It’s having the courage to show up even when you can’t control the outcome.” That’s what vulnerability is. And that gets me just really thinking.

Something I wanted to talk about with you guys today is just that simple fact: we can’t always control the outcome of what’s happening to us and around us. But we show up every day, and we continue to strive to do better and make a difference in not only in our lives, our families’ lives, our friends and relationships at work, and our community.

Vulnerability is showing up even when you know you can’t control the outcome of what’s going to happen.

You show up anyway, and you continue to strive and you continue to do. And I think that’s a good measure. It’s also a good measure of our core values, of staying resolved and being valuable, being invested, being willing to put forth the time and effort it takes to do some things, being transparent, and humble. It’s a really great thing.

So I know this is a Wednesday; we’re not supposed to be talking about core values, but we always talk about core values because it’s every day. So vulnerability, again, it’s not about winning and losing. It’s about having courage to just show up. And when you can’t control the outcome, you still show up. And sometimes the outcome works out better for you, sometimes it doesn’t, but you continue to strive, you continue to do, and you grow and you get better.

So on this Wednesday, stay vulnerable, be valuable, nothing less will do. And God bless you guys. Have a wonderful, exciting rest of your week. I’ll see you next week. We’re almost done. We’re almost done. Actually, next Wednesday, if I’m not mistaken, is May 1. How cool is that? All right, God bless you guys. See you later.
